Culture is not a foreign word here in Virginia Beach. The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia is located across from the Virginia Beach Visitors Center and Pavilion.
It hosts several contemporary artists and includes painting, sculpture, photography, glass, video and other visual media from international, national and regional artists. The exhibits Brings 21st century socio-political and cultural views to the forefront by showcasing stimulating visual art work change often and they center also presents Boardwalk Art Show.
This is one of the oldest and largest arts shows on the East Coast, and is held each summer along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. The Center offers a many classes suited for adult and children in all kinds of art Medias and photography. They have a gallery shop with gifts from local artist and educational programming for the schools in the area that is available throughout the year.
The art center is funded through the citizens of Virginia Beach, with a grant from the City of Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission. The center also host a variety of events including a wine tasting, weddings, and meetings for the art community with poetry readings, art openings and more. There is an auditorium that seats 268 people as well. They are open M-F from 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-4pm, and Sunday 12pm-4pm. Admissions is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
